Top Signs You Should Hire A Lawyer To Help You Receive Radiation Exposure Compensation Act Benefits

Health & Medical Blog

If you have been exposed to dangerous levels of radiation, then you might be hoping that you will be compensated for it by the United States government. You might be aware of the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) and the benefits that it provides. Of course, you can go through the process of applying for this compensation yourself, and this might be what you're thinking about doing. However, there are times when it makes more sense to hire a lawyer to help you. These are a few signs that you should hire a lawyer to assist you with getting these benefits.

You Don't Have a Lot of Proof

You might know that you were exposed to radiation and that you qualify for RECA benefits, but you mAY not have much proof. For example, if you were a uranium worker, you would probably have proof of your employment. However, if you think you qualify for these benefits because you were downwind of a test site, it could be a little bit harder for you to prove your case. You shouldn't give up on getting the compensation that you're entitled to just because of this, however. Instead, you should hire a lawyer so they can help you with your case.

Your Claim Has Been Denied in the Past

You may have already gone through the process of applying for RECA compensation, but your case could have been turned down for some reason or another. Many people never reapply after being denied for RECA compensation, but you do have the option to do so. If you hire a lawyer, they will hopefully help you get approved for benefits the second time around.

You're Seeking Survivors' Benefits

Many people who work with RECA lawyers do so because they were the ones who were exposed to dangerous levels of radiation. However, this is not always the case. What some people don't realize is that RECA benefits can be paid to a surviving family member if the exposed individual was never properly compensated before their death. As you can probably imagine, these cases can be complicated. You might not be sure if your loved one ever received their compensation or not, or you could be worried that you won't be paid the survivors' benefits that you're entitled to for some reason or another. A RECA lawyer can help you determine whether or not you're eligible for survivors' benefits, and they can then help you with the process of applying if you are eligible.

Tips for Living a Great Life with Chronic Illness

I was always very healthy throughout my childhood, but when I became a teenager, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness. Thankfully, I had the support of my loving family to help keep me upbeat during a time that could have led to me experiencing the depression that some do after they first learn they will have an illness for life. I am very grateful for the advice I have gotten throughout my life, so I decided to create a blog where I can share all of the advice that has helped me live a happy, healthy life, despite having a chronic illness. Since I am on a medication that suppresses my immune system, I have also studied up on many other illnesses and tips for avoiding them and treating them. I plan to post health tips for people of a variety of ages and suffering with various illnesses!
