5 Natural Foods & Products To Help Reduce Acne

Health & Medical Articles

When dealing with personal health, one of the biggest beauty battles that both males and females face is acne. The formation of pimples and acne can be painful, scarring, and emotionally troubling. Professional acne treatment is one of the best methods for clearing up skin, but there are natural remedies you can try at home to help enhance results.

The following five foods and natural products offer different solutions for treating acne. Everyone has different skin and using a variety of these products may yield different results depending on your skin.

Banana Peels

Instead of putting your banana peel in a trash or compost, you can get use out of every part of the fruit. When a banana is peeled, the skins are filled with nutrients and antioxidants that can be used to help treat acne.

  • Cut the peels into small rectangular shapes.
  • Slowly rub the peel onto the affected area. Repeat this process for at least 30 seconds.
  • Leave the banana ingredients on your face for 30 minutes. Rinse them off using warm water.
  • Refrigerate the remaining peel pieces. Repeat the process once a day for four to five days.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are pure oils that come directly from plants. They are used for all types of remedies and health solutions. This includes acne treatment. The following oils are ideal for acne treatment.

  • Carrot Seed Oil: The oil made from carrot seeds helps nourish and repair acne scars on the skin. Mix a few drops of the oil with your daily facial cleanser or moisturizer.
  • Lavender Oil: The natural oil helps make your face feel smooth and will remove bad oils and toxins. This is actually one of the more common oils to find. Look for body lotions and moisturizers that feature it as one of the main ingredients.
  • Tea Tree Oil: Tea tree oils can help prevent acne breakouts, but they also can cause extremely dry skin. The best method is to use a cotton swab to dab the oil directly on the skin and then follow up with your normal lotions and acne treatment.

Squash Facial Mask

The leftovers from Thanksgiving can actually be used to create a refreshing facial mask that will help reduce acne.

  • Peel and cut a butternut squash into small cubes. It's better to use a fresh squash because the nutrients are removed from the frozen variety.
  • Boil the cubes until they are soft. Drain and mash them completely.
  • Mix the squash with a cup of rolled oats and 1 tablespoon of aloe vera.
  • Gently rub the mask completely over your face. Leave it on for 30 minutes. Rinse it off using warm water in a shower or over the sink.

Repeat this process every other day until you notice changes in your skin. Other vegetables like sweet potatoes work using the same process.

Cinnamon & Honey

Christmas is a great time for cinnamon and honey treats, teas, and desserts. Those same ingredients can also be used for treating facial blemishes.

  • Add two tablespoons of aloe vera gel into a small bowl.
  • Mix in three tablespoons of cinnamon and a few squirts of honey for added scent and texture.
  • Rub the mixture onto your face and let it set for 60 minutes. Gently wash off the facial mask using warm water. Your face will feel refreshed and invigorated through the cinnamon. The ingredients will help remove toxins from your skin and reduce the acne that appears there.
  • As an alternative, a little dab of honey and cinnamon can be used directly on a pimple instead of over your face completely. It's a good idea to try the remedy on a small spot of acne before using it on your whole face.

When using any method, it's a good idea to see what your doctor thinks of the treatment. This will help you plan the methods for clearing your face and keeping it pimple-free. For more information, contact the specialists at a clinic like Desert Dermatology.

Tips for Living a Great Life with Chronic Illness

I was always very healthy throughout my childhood, but when I became a teenager, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness. Thankfully, I had the support of my loving family to help keep me upbeat during a time that could have led to me experiencing the depression that some do after they first learn they will have an illness for life. I am very grateful for the advice I have gotten throughout my life, so I decided to create a blog where I can share all of the advice that has helped me live a happy, healthy life, despite having a chronic illness. Since I am on a medication that suppresses my immune system, I have also studied up on many other illnesses and tips for avoiding them and treating them. I plan to post health tips for people of a variety of ages and suffering with various illnesses!
